This short animation by German/French animator Maïté Schmitt is all about overcoming a negative judgment to reach a shared common goal, with a particular focus upon sustainable development. Albert, a young librarian, is agitated by the invasion of moths attacking his treasured collection of books. Although he is initially prejudiced towards the bat who hangs around the library, he learns to overcome his animosity in order to protect the books and defeat the moths. The pair become friends and succeed in looking after the library. This witty and heart-warming short film is a great way to think about sameness and difference with 8-11 year olds. The film also creates a way to consider sustainable development with younger viewers, because the success of the narrative depends upon recognition of the effect of the natural world (the moths) on an item of value to humans (the books).
