Policy Brief 3: Dialogue, Argumentation, and Creative Practices as Tools in Cultural Literacy Learning in Europe

The third and final DIALLS policy brief focusses on education policies as crucial means to enhance peaceful coexistence in a culturally diverse Europe. Drawing upon the two datasets that emerged from implementing the Cultural Literacy Learning Programme (CLLP) — transcripts of discussions from 250 classes and children’s cultural artefacts in response to those discussions — this brief makes recommendations for the authors of future education policies in Europe about how to improve constructive interaction and mutual understanding.

Policy Brief 2: Promoting Cultural Literacy in Schools

This second DIALLS policy brief is aimed at those that make decisions on what programmes and initiatives are implemented in individual schools and aims to show the benefits of running a Cultural Literacy Learning Programme (CLLP) to promote cultural literacy, as defined by DIALLS, across all age groups.  It is based on our experiences of running the CLLP in seven countries between September 2019 and March 2020 (when the programme stopped prematurely due to COVID-19 lockdown) and draws upon both qualitative and quantitative findings.

Policy Brief 1: Developing Educational Policies in Europe to Enhance Cultural Literacy

DIALLS’ first policy brief includes recommendations for European and national policymakers. It is based on DIALLS’ analysis of education policy documentation that revealed how cultural interactions are often narrowly framed in policy documents ignoring dialogue as a process of learning and empathy as its core disposition.
