Dr Maria Evagorou

Maria Evagorou is an Associate Professor in Science Education at the School of Education, University of Nicosia, and also the Associate Head of the Department of Education. Her research focuses on exploring and enhancing students’ and pre-service teachers’ argumentation especially in socio-scientific issues. She has participated in research aiming to promote young students’ argumentation when supported by mobile technologies, and in a number of EU funded research projects, and was the scientific coordinator for the PreSEES project (Preparing Science Educators for Everyday Science). Before returning to Cyprus, she worked as a researcher at the Center for Informal Learning and Schools (CILS) at King’s College London, and as a Lecturer at King’s College London. She has published widely on socio-scientific argumentation and teaching approaches to science education. She is the Strand coordinator of the Pre-Service Teacher Strand for ESERA (European Science Education Research Association) and is also involved in in teacher professional development in Cyprus.

Maria’s main role in DIALLS involves working with teachers and students to support them during argumentation activities (WP3).
