Social Responsibility, Social and Civic CompetenceHere’s what the students say about the artefact they created:
What is the artwork about?
When we made this artefact we discussed what we would do if we had a new pupil in school. The boy who painted this picture and said:
I could say, “Hello, do you want to be my friend? We could go on the AB frame together and play on it together.”
Why was it designed in this way?
The children are being kind to each other and asking each other to play. Collaboration is one of our school dispositions, which includes being, inclusive, kind and friendly to each other. We are being collaborative when we play on the climbing frame with our friends. We are at our best on the climbing frame, playing together, taking turns and helping each other across.
Why did the class choose this artwork?
It is made of watercolours. The children particularly enjoy using watercolours as a medium because “they wash everywhere and splats around everywhere”.
The painting has the AB frame in it. The AB frame represents our school and our playground. “The AB is quite fun because you can learn how to climb”. The AB frame is one of our oldest climbing frames in our school so it represents us as a school. The AB frame is in the Key Stage 1 playground and it is a marked achievement when Reception children move to Year 1 and are able to go on the AB frame. (It was always something untouchable, until you were in Year 1). One of the boys remembers his transition day from Reception to Year 1 and he was excited to go on the AB frame.
Was it created collaboratively or by one student?
It was created by one student.
