After a year of teaching lessons from the Cultural Literacy Learning Programme to her class in Lithuania, primary teacher Rasa Jurgeleviciene reflects on the ways it opened up her students to considering their role in the world. She is interviewed by DIALLS researcher Vaiva Juskiene from Vilnius University.
Rasa says:
“It is not enough for the teacher to stand in front of the class and tell them how things should be. If the children get to experience [discussion of issues like protecting nature and combating stereotypes] firsthand…then they become more engaged. If we want to build a wonderful, bright, and understanding society, we need to begin educating children from a young age.”
